Quickstart

  1. Create your free BittAds account
  2. Follow the steps at the signup page

  3. Create one or multiple zones
  4. bittads admin > zones

    Once your BittAds account is generated, surf to the admin and click the zones button (see navigation).

    A zone (bitt.zone) allows you to divide your website or network into different areas. When creating an ad, you will be able to choose which zones to display it in. You can choose any suitable name for a zone. (for example 'mywebsite')
    In your bannertag this will translate to bitt.zone = 'mywebsite';

    A zone has a name, an (optional) icon and permissions. Permissions decide who can view and edit ads in a zone. Administrators have view and edit rights to all ads by default.

  5. Create ad tags for your website
  6. bittads admin > tags

    • mywebsite (zone)
      • frontpage (location)
        • skyscraper (shape)
        • video pre-roll (shape)
      • articles (location)
        • skyscraper (shape)
        • advertorial (shape)
      • shop (location)
        • shop promotion (shape)
        • skyscraper (shape)
      • message board (location)
        • skyscraper (shape)

    Before you create ad tags it's best to make an overview of which types of ads you have on your website and where you want to place them. (see example on the right)

    First choose in which way you want your ads to load. In general it's best to load them after the page has finished downloading, but if you have parts on your page that take long to load, you can change this value.

    Then define the name of your zone, location and shape.

    Location (bitt.location) allows you to specify different pages or areas within a zone, for instance "frontpage" or "registration page". When creating an ad, you will be able to choose which locations to display it in. (for example 'frontpage')
    In your bannertag this will translate to bitt.location = 'frontpage';

    The shape indicates what kind of banner this is. This helps distinguish the ad spot from other ad spots on the same page.

    Once you have done this, the banner code is generated and can be copy/pasted in your website.
    Note: if you prefer avoiding testing tags on your live website it's wise to create a test page (e.g. test.html). See the example below.

    <html>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>

    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://server.bittads.com/js/bitt.js'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    bitt.instance = '123';
    bitt.zone = 'mywebsite';
    bitt.location = 'frontpage';
    bitt.showAdOnLoad('skyscraper');
    </script>

    </body>
    <html>

  7. Create a test ad
  8. bittads admin > ad overview > create a new ad

    Before you can test if your ads actually work, you need to create a new ad. For a basic testing ad:

    • Select the shape mentioned in your tag (if not in the list, select 'Other, namely') and make sure the right zone is selected.
    • For testing it's advised not to choose a running date or view/click limit. Leave these on the defaults: 'forever' and 'unlimited'.
    • Don't enter any targeting options.
    • If you need a test ad, you can use this small image for testing purposes. Just enter the url at the 'image file' field and enter a link (for this test you can refer it to your some random page like google.com).
    • http://www.bittads.com/i/ad_test.png

  9. Test it!
  10. If your ad shows up on your test page, it's safe to start integrating tags in your website.
